Level measurement in a wastewater treatment plant

In the water and environmental sectors, the accuracy of measurements and the reliability of data transmission are major issues. It was against this backdrop that a wastewater treatment plant chose JM Concept's solutions to improve control of its water levels and flows.

Objective: reliable measurement of water levels

To guarantee optimal operation of its facilities, this wastewater treatment plant needed to:

  • Ensure accurate measurement of tank levels,
  • Reliable data transfer to the supervisory PLC,
  • Optimize the acquisition of analog signals from field sensors.

The JM Concept solution implemented

To meet these needs, our customer deployed a simple, robust and high-performance architecture based around our 4/20 mA signal transmitters and Modbus TCP data concentrator:

  • EOLIS 3000T0: a dual-channel digital transmitter without display, ideal for industrial applications requiring compactness and reliability.
  • EOLIS 3000T2: a dual-channel digital transmitter with analog outputs, offering a complete, scalable solution with an integrated display.
  • MIPLINE: our Modbus TCP concentrator, which centralizes 4/20 mA measurements and transmits them to the M580 PLC via the Modbus TCP/IP protocol.

The system is based on a BL04NLV 4-slot board, enabling modular integration of the various transmitters.

A high-performance, scalable architecture

The diagram below illustrates the architecture deployed in this wastewater treatment plant:

Level measurements are transmitted in 4-20 mA by wire to the EOLIS 3000 transmitters. The transmitters condition and convert the signal, then transmit the data both wired (analog or digital signal) and via RJ45 (Modbus TCP). The signals are then processed :

  • Schneider M580 PLCs, which trigger the actions required to operate the station,
  • and by the SOFREL S4W teletransmitter, which sends data to the remote supervision system.
